We are currently looking at a number of different areas of organic chemistry:

(a) Photochemical Cyclizations of Enediynes

This involves the cyclization of enediynes under photochemical conditions with an emphasis on the use of heteroatom containing enediynes changing the chromophore - can we extend the chromophore sufficiently to use lower energy light to trigger the cyclizations?

(b) Reactions of Thioenones

This is an attempt to answer the question: "What happens when the oxygen of an enone is replaced by sulfur?"

(c) Natural Product Isolation

Algae from Northern Ontario lakes is being isolated and extracted to determine the natural products present

(d) Synthesis of 7-phosphanorbornadiene

Synthesis of a novel norbornadiene to determine its P-31 chemical shift
